UQ

About This Course

Paediatrics and Child Health is a six week clinical immersion block underpinned by the paediatric online interactive education (POLIE) curriculum, supplemented by a specialist lecture series and other teaching sessions depending on the specific Clinical School attachment. Assessment includes work based assessment (mini-CEX) and an end of block MCQ and OSCE examination. The course goals include; preparing the student for work readiness in a paediatric clinical unit, recognition of the sick child, understanding the scope of paediatrics and developing sufficient knowledge and experience to progress to post-graduate training in Paediatrics and Child Health.

WHAT is POLIE?

- POLIE is a blended learning package that covers common and important paediatric conditions

- POLIE uses patient cases and real professional resources

- POLIE is for medical students (and junior doctors)

POLIE consists of both ONLINE MODULES and FACE-TO-FACE TUTORIALS for teaching clinicians, for modules 1-8.

- Modules 1-9 have interactive online materials for students

- Module 10 covers outpatient presentations and is in development

This blended learning format allows students to engage each topic in the online module at their own pace and then to attend a site based face-to-face follow up tutorial with a teaching clinician to consolidate the learning.
